At the invitation of the editor of Ocean Digest, which is the Quarterly Newsletter of the Ocean Society of India, Charles Sheppard has contributed a well illustrated summary of some ocean warming effects and other related matters as they pertain to the Chagos Archipelago. The Society web pages, where the full issue with many interesting articles can be seen, is at http://www.oceansociety.in/oceandigest/. This article is an expansion of that which appeared in the last Chagos News, and briefly summarises collected data on coral cover, ocean temperatures and sea level rise as has been researched to date over several years. This work is ongoing as readers will know, and indeed will be continued along with a large suite of other aspects of integrated research, during the third Darwin funded expedition that is due to start in March 2015.

In the latest issue of Chagos News

The opening article examines the first sighting of the sliteye shark in the waters of the Great Chagos Bank, written by Charlotte Oulton and Drs Holly Stokes, Kimberley Stokes, and Chagos Conservation Trust (CCT) Trustee Nicole Esteban from Swansea University’s Marine Conservation Ecology Lab.
