We bring together scientists, conservationists, environmental campaigners and the Chagossian community, who are all devoted to discovering more about the archipelago’s unique ecosystem and wildlife – and how to conserve it.

The Chagossian Community
As vital stakeholders in the Chagos Archipelago, the Trust has worked and engaged with Chagossian groups for many years and a Chagossian Trustee sits on the CCT Board who leads on community engagement. The Chagossians’ history and culture play an important part in the islands’ past, present and future, and we support Chagossian communities to ensure this continues. For example, CCT works closely with the UK-based Chagossian community, where we develop new ways to engage and build capacity. This includes involving Chagossians in conservation activities, attending community events to update on scientific research happening on the islands, supporting scholarships for students to join scientific expeditions, and providing environmental education and training.
