Chagossian Community Environment project
ZSL and the Chagos Conservation Trust (CCT) have teamed up to provide an environmental training programme to UK-based and overseas Chagossian communities. In a bid to help connect UK Chagossian’s with their wildlife heritage we will be running a two stage programme towards increasing environmental awareness within UK Chagossian communities, we then hope to extend this beyond the UK to Chagossian communities in Mauritius and the Seychelles.
An event at London Zoo, to be mirrored in Manchester, will be held by ZSL staff and volunteers with collaborating organisations that include RSPB, Kew Gardens and Coral Cay Conservation. These events aim to promote environmental issues, with highlights of the unique and exciting wildlife to be found in this specially protected area. Tropical marine and terrestrial topics such as coral reef and island ecology and conservation will be a focus.
