The Chagos Conservation Trust (CCT) is a UK registered charity dedicated to promoting and conducting scientific and historical research and environmental conservation work in the Chagos.

CCT is now seeking to appoint new Trustees to its Executive Committee. We would be especially interested to receive applications from those with experience in communications and/or PR, the law, or of senior positions within the business sector.

Our Executive Committee comprises a diverse mix of scientists and conservationists, all of whom offer their time on a voluntary basis. The committee meets approximately four times per year in London, for which travel expenses will be paid. Email correspondence is frequent between meetings.

Job Description:

Four years ago, on 1st April 2010, the world’s largest strictly protected marine reserve was created in the Chagos archipelago. The Chagos, also known as the British Indian Ocean Territory, or BIOT, is the most biodiverse marine environment under British jurisdiction. It boasts:

·     The cleanest recorded seawater in the world;

·     The world’s largest living coral atoll;

·     An abundance of fish six times greater than anywhere else in the Indian Ocean, and around 60 times greater than heavily fished areas;

·     Nesting grounds for endangered green turtles, and other increasingly rare species;

·     Ten Important Bird Areas identified by Birdlife International.

The Chagos Conservation Trust (CCT) is a UK registered charity dedicated to promoting and conducting scientific and historical research and environmental conservation work in the Chagos. CCT is now seeking to appoint new Trustees to its Executive Committee. Applicants should demonstrate:

·     Full support and understanding of CCT’s vision, mission, and aims (essential);

·     Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time to Trustee duties (essential);

·     Experience of strategic planning and forming effective organisation objectives (essential);

·     Experience of working at Board level in a charity or business environment (desirable);

·     An understanding of charity law and governance (desirable).

Additionally, we would be especially interested to receive applications from those with experience in communications and/or PR, the law, or of senior positions within the business sector.
